Art Class (Instructor: Esther Morey)

Time to get creative! Art class is a place to get messy and have fun creating. There are many projects waiting for you to dive into like sketching, painting, and fascinating artistic crafts that combine a variety of techniques. If you are an experienced artist or just a beginner, we have a project for you.  Art class is a place to learn new techniques and explore different types of media that maybe you haven’t tried before.  It’s also a place to just express yourself…in a fun way.

Banjo (Instructor: John Peters)

There’s no time like the present to learn an instrument from our American heritage! In this class, learn tuning, rolls, reading tab, playing chords, and more. Also explore its fascinating history. From mountain music to bluegrass, this basic banjo class is a great chance to learn one of West Virginia’s most loved instruments.

Drums and World Percussion (Instructor: Levi Salts)

This is a basic drumming class for anyone. We will get to play several different types of drums including (but not limited to): Cajon [Box Drum], Djembe [African Hand Drum], and the Snare Drum [used in a marching band or in a drum set]. We will learn songs together, play simple rhythm games, and learn about drums in many genres of music.

Dobro (Instructor: John Peters)

Also known as the Resophonic Guitar, the “Dobro” has been made famous by country and bluegrass music, and is being used in many more genres of music today! In this class, learn the basic rolling techniques for the right hand, and sliding techniques for the left hand, while learning old and new songs!

Guitar (Instructors: David Salts and John Kemper)

Guitar is a fun, portable instrument that can play so many different styles of music!  In these guitar classes, you will learn chords, tablature and guitar riffs!

Music Theory (Intructors: Jessica Taylor, David Salts, and Emily Taylor)

Music theory is a wonderful asset to the other music classes we offer at Coda Community. Here, we will be learning the basic structure of how and why music works, which opens the door for arranging and composing music - and easily applies to the instruments we play, whether it be a stringed instrument, percussive instrument, or the voice! Music theory is foundational on the musical journey to success!

Piano (Instructor: Mary Salts)

This course is dedicated to learning piano/keys for students who want to read traditional music and or play by chords. This allows for a better understanding of what you are reading and how it fits together with chords. Playing chords is the backbone to forming music faster, either your own work or covers. This course is designed to get you reading and playing quickly, practically and efficiently.

Robotics (Instructor: Tim Richmond )

Coda Community offers three different levels of lego robotics – WeDo 1, WeDo2 and Mindstorm.

WeDo 1 is our entry level.  Students will discover how gears, cogs, belts and motors work together to create motion.  They build simple robots from lego blocks then program those robots to do certain tasks.  Programming is simple, picture based, drag and drop icons.  Once this level is complete the student progresses to WeDo 2.

WeDo 2 is our second level.  Although similar to WeDo 1, the robots are a bit more complex.  Sensors that detect motion and degree of tilt are added to the machines to change the way they behave.  Programming is drag and drop icons just like WeDo 1.

Our third level is Mindstorm.  In this series of classes, the student will work with complex autonomous machines that they build themselves.  Programing is a little more advanced and each model they build will have a mission to complete before moving on.

Ukulele (Instructor: David Salts)

The ukulele is a fun way to enter the music world and always brings a smile when played! Its easier to play than the guitar and is well suited for smaller (or bigger) hands as well. Lessons cover how to hold and strum a ukulele, plus all the basics of uke tuning. Learn basic chords and tunes together, as well as different rhythms and strumming patterns.

Violin (Instructor: Jessica Taylor)

The violin opens the door to many different styles of music including classical, orchestral, chamber, bluegrass, folk, ballad and more. These group or semi-private lessons will teach you how to hold, tune and learn violin skills that set a solid foundation for future success using the Suzuki method!

Vocal Class (Instructor: Mary Salts)

Do you just love to sing?
Do people say you sing ALL the TIME?
In the car, shower or just making up silly songs?

Would you like to sing with more confidence, strengthen your whole vocal range and learn to really listen so you can correct your pitches? We would love to have you join our classes so we can personally evaluate your vocal skills and explore musical exercises that help you push through tough vocal breaks. We will personalize this experience by singing music that you love to sing. And the more you sing, the stronger your vocal muscles become! There will be lots of crazy songs and plenty of laughter.
